1. Little Girls and Comic Stores

    My sister told me a story today about my 4 3/4 year old niece and comic stores. Niece likes to watch Big Bang Theory -and apparently has her first crush on Leonard, talks about him all the time if they have recently watched an episode or not. “Isn’t Leonard funny and charming?” she says.  

    On free comic book day she was giving my sister a hard time. She didn’t want to go because “comic shops are for boys”. When my sister asked her where she got that idea from she said “Well Leonard and Sheldon go to the comic shop all the time and there are never any girls there and when Penny went all the boys freaked out”. 

    It’s interesting to me how this idea was picked up by such a young girl and so indirectly. It isn’t as if someone said to her directly “COMIC SHOPS ARE FOR BOYS ONLY”, yet that is the idea she has formed.

    I was informed by Seth and Sean from the YMCA that Seth was VERY upset, and crying for quite some time this afternoon because you threw away his totem. Can you please elaborate for me as to why you did this? Seth said it was because he put fake boogers on it, which I do not see being a reason to throw it in the garbage.
